James & Laura's Birmingham Wedding

I don't often get the chance to be a wedding photographer in Birmingham, so when Laura and James contacted me, I jumped at the chance, especially when they told me the venues they had chosen.

James and Laura held their wedding at the Hotel Du Vin and took over the highly-regarded Jam House music venue for their reception. As ever, though, the day started with the bride's preparations - and the arrival of an unusual mode of wedding transport.

So, with the make-up done, and the dresses on, it was time for us all to board the 1960s vintage Routemaster bus for the journey into the city centre and the Hotel Du Vin - with a singalong on the way, of course.

The bus stopped by the back door of the Hotel Du Vin, so Laura and her Dad could sneak in unnoticed, while the rest of us made our way to the pretty ceremony room, where James was waiting expectantly.

With the drinks reception and the wedding photography at the Hotel Du Vin finished, it was time to jump back on the bus and head over to The Jam House for the reception proper, to photograph one of the longest and most intricately choreographed first dances I've seen.

And a heck of a party to follow.
